Creating Connection

Individual Therapy
Therapy begins with you! We will work together to determine the most effective approach and develop a plan to help you meet your treatment goals. We take the time to get to know you and identify not only what is getting in your way but also how best to work through the obstacles. We offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each of our client’s individual needs to help you attain the personal growth you seek.
Couple Therapy
At Truckee Therapy, we use EFT or Emotion-Focused Therapy, which, as the name indicates, focuses on emotions. The fights and arguments couples have are often not about the content of what is said, but about the emotional underpinnings of how things are said, or how what is said makes us feel. EFT helps address the core questions we often ask ourselves about our most important relationship: “Do I matter deeply to my partner? Will he/she be there for me when I need them most? Do I feel safe and secure enough in this relationship to be my full and authentic self?” These questions are typically at the root of what couples fight about: the emotional bond and security in their relationship. When we fear that the answer to one of the above questions may be “no,” it can cause us to feel isolated and alone, and sometimes as though we are fighting for survival itself.
EFT – a highly researched, effective, and evidence-based treatment – focuses on the emotional bond between partners, presuming that most relational problems arise from a disruption in this bond. It helps partners learn not only to be more open and trusting with each other, but also to reach out for one another more effectively.
Family Therapy
Our overall goal in family therapy is to restore connection and promote resilience in family relationships. We work together to re-establish more secure family patterns where attachment and caregiving responses are effective and emotional bonds are repaired. These resources inform a network of security that provides the flexibility and closeness necessary for families to promote individual growth and meaningful relationships across generations.
