My counseling philosophy is based in humanistic, existential, and family systems theories. Combined, these theories place trust between the client and counselor as primary for a collaborative relationship where, together, we will choose treatment goals and methods to work toward those goals.

Equally important, the theories that form my counseling philosophy accept anxieties, fears, and struggles as a part of life. I believe that individuals and families have the strength within themselves to grow toward better lives, although they may need support at times to find that strength.

Finally, the influence of relationships – whether good or bad – is not overlooked in my philosophy. The focus, however, will be on understanding how relationships shape us, accepting who you are today, and learning new ways to cope and live.
